How to upgrade Kali Linux 1.09 to Kali Linux 2.0 in Ubuntu Virtualbox





    In this tutorial I'm going to share on How to upgrade Kali Linux 1.09 to Kali Linux 2.0 in Ubuntu Virtualbox .

What will be covered in this tutorial
  1. Kali Linux Virtualbox network setting.
  2. Update Kali Linux sources list .
  3. Update System .
  4. Upgrade System . 
  5. Reboot System
Steps

1) Kali Linux Virtualbox network setting.


1.1) Run Virtualbox. Go to "Settings> Network" . Set the network settings to  "NAT" or "Network Address Translation " mode.

1.2) Run Kali Linux .



2) Update Kali Linux sources list .

2.1) Check your current Kali Linux version  by typing below command in the terminal.





2.2) Edit Kali Linux sources list . Run below command in the terminal.




2.3 )  Add below repositories in your Kali Linux sources lists.

Regular repositories. 
deb http://http.kali.org/kali sana main non-free contrib
deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security sana/updates main contrib non-free

Sources repositories .
deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali sana main non-free contrib
deb-src http://security.kali.org/kali-security sana/updates main contrib non-free

(You can check the latest Kali Linux repositories on their Website . )

Kali Linux /etc/apt/sources.list
Updated sources list.
2.3) Check the save list .








3)Update system .

Run below command in the terminal .






4) Upgrade System.

4.1) Run below command in the terminal .


apt-get upgrade

4.2) Proceed with the installation by  pressing "Y" on the prompted question.






The packages will be downloaded to your system .

4.3) Once the package finish download, it will show some changes that had been done in Kali Linux 2.0. You can read it if you want to .







4.4) Then the system will direct you for package configuration and settings. This is up to your preferences . Below is how I set my Kali Linux system .

Configuring Wireshark common.


Configuring EXTLINUX

Configuring Postgresql-common

4.5) After you done with the settings, Kali Linux 2.0 will be installed on your system. it might take some time for it to complete . Press "Enter" for default answer on any prompted question in the terminal .






5) Reboot system .

5.1) Once the installation is completed,   check  Kali Linux version  by running below command .




Kali Linux 2.0

5.2) Reboot System .

Run below command in the terminal .





5.3) After rebooted,explore your new upgraded system .
